13rd july 2009. on account of construction work at stadelhoferplatz, forchbahn had to be turned just short of this location in kreuzstrasse between 11th july and 16th august 2009. for this purpose a temporary turnout was layed on the road surface. i believe the official term for such an arrangement is california switch.

Much of the industry has since given way to residential usage, but in places interesting elements of trackwork remain, albeit mostly disused. Note the narrow gauge turntables set within the standard gauge track!

3 june 2009. view from the santa barbara castle, alicante, of the fgv depot at la marina. during the period that alicante borrowed valencia trams the track curving to the right of the depot continued and formed a turning loop. the stub besides the white van is the other end of this loop. this depot is used for the maintenance of diesel trains, with trams being serviced at a dedicated modern facility at el campello. visible are a series 2500 two-car unit, two alsthom diesel locomotives, and aseries 2300 unit. series 2500 is a rebuild of series 2300.

industrial railway tracks in zürich oerlikon
16 September 2013, Roadworks on Elias-Canetti-Strasse in Zürich Oerlikon revealed these narrow gauge tracks. I don't know anything about the history of these tracks. The rail is of extremely light grade and so possibly used for hand-pushed trolleys. This area was part of the MFO factory site, which was until not very long ago criss-crossed by a veritable labyrinth of industrial sidings, the remnants of one of which is still visible in this same street. These tracks are definitely too light to be standard gauge however, so must have been part of a different system. This picture is part of a series of four .

4th may 2008, philadelphia, a bristol vr bus, still carrying its uk registration on a tourist tour of the city. this view shows how an additional door has been inserted permitting right-hand boarding. the building on the right is the reading terminal, a former railroad station. the tram tracks are a currently disused line, the reinstatement of which would certainly enhance the city's vibrant hub.
