gtz trolleybus number 1
1995, mercedes/abb o405 gtz trolleybus number 1 (former prototype) of 1986 approaches kirche fluntern on route 33. this was the only gtz to have three doors rather than four. it was also the only gtz to gave carried this livery variation with more generous use of blue. the livery lasted until 1999. the bus was unpopular with staff as the missing rear door supposedly lead to longer loading times and made time keeping difficult. it was hence frequently used for driver training. this became official in 2007 when the bus could be declared surplus to the requirements of the regular fleet and was renumbered 4122 in the training fleet. this status was short lived however, as the bus suffered a transmission failure later that year and was scrapped for spares .
tierspital subway stop: zürich
tierspital stop on the milchbuck to schwamendingerplatz subway. this tunnel was built for zürich's planned u-bahn . this project was, however, discarded in a referendum in 1973. the subway finally found a new use when a tram line was opened through it in 1986. to compare this picture to how the u-bahn could have looked, visit this page: from u-bahn to tram tunnel .

on the 8th february 1999 heavy snowfall hit zürich. road transport practically ceased to exist, and even the trams had to struggle. here 2086 + 2315 have just unloaded passengers at bahnhofstrasse during the evening peak. the stop had been temporarily relocated to here from it's normal position due to track renewal work. these trams carry a special livery advertising the opening of route 11's extension to messe the previous september.

on 28th september 2002, 2086+2315 cross stampfenbachbrücke on route 11. these units still carry the advertising livery for the extension to messe which was applied in september 1998. the leading unit has railings and liferings along the roof to advertise for cruises. but don't he railings make the car look a bit like an open-topped double-decker?

the end of 4122
25th april 2007. the partly dismantled remains of gtz trolleybus 4122 (ex number 1 of 1986) at altstetten works. to the right of it is o405 diesel bus 4120 (also ex-driving trainer) probably awaiting the same fate.
