Industrial railway tracks in Zürich Oerlikon

click to reduce size

16 September 2013, Roadworks on Elias-Canetti-Strasse in Zürich Oerlikon revealed these narrow gauge tracks.

I don't know anything about the history of these tracks. The rail is of extremely light grade and so possibly used for hand-pushed trolleys. This area was part of the MFO factory site, which was until not very long ago criss-crossed by a veritable labyrinth of industrial sidings, the remnants of one of which is still visible in this same street. These tracks are definitely too light to be standard gauge however, so must have been part of a different system.

This picture is part of a series of four.
